The best tool you’ll need to use are thinning shears. If you have a hair shaver, that’s good too. Use the sharpest pair of scissors you have around your home. Don’t use dull ones as it won’t give you the definite cut you’re trying for. A blanket, a mirror, a spray bottle are essential tools too!

Keep them occupied
Getting the kids to sit still is very challenging. This is the right time to use their go-to gadget, smartphones, and iPads. Turning on their favorite show is an excellent way to get them to sit still while you’re cutting their hair. When the kids are not still is most of the time when a cut goes wrong.

Make them sit as straight as possible
Avoid having your little one’s haircut longer on one side than the other by making them sit as straight as possible. When trimming, make sure they are sitting correctly in the chair, arms leaning on their lap or arm rest, and legs are even on the ground.

Dampen and carefully cut the hair
Make sure the hair is a little wet before you start. First, isolate the top of the head and create a parallel, vertical section along the head with your sharp scissors. Then switch to a thinning shear if you need to take more hair off. You can also just cut smaller sections of hair if you don’t have shears available.
